Who We Are

Sustainable Run for Development (SURUDEV) is a Cameroonian award-winning non-profit, non-denominational, apolitical organization conservation organization established in 2007 and legally registered in 2010 with registration number 154/E.277/750/BAPP in conformity with law 90/053 of 19thDecember 1990 of the Republic of Cameroon. We are dedicated to transforming the poor environmental and agricultural landscapes to sustain livelihoods for the poor and underprivileged through community initiatives and active participation, while nurturing the traditional wisdom and facilitate progressive mindsets.

Our Vision

We envision sustainable development of communities where everyone is aware of the environmental issues plaguing them and aware of the solutions, have guaranteed opportunities of sustainable development that enables them exercise their rights to food, livelihood, education, health, peace, while enjoying a life free from economic hardship.

To promote inclusive, equitable and sustainable development initiatives in Cameroon.

Our Core Values

We believe in the concept/principle that successful protection and conservation of the environment is not feasible without training the communities around the environments being protected. It is required to make these communities realize that the resources they protect and conserve belong to them and they own those.

Objectives

To address and reduce ecological degradation through, conservation of biodiversity, waste management, promotion of renewable energy and, enhancing local climate adaptation methods through mass awareness campaigns, advocacy and research and , plantations of forest species

To alleviate poverty and strengthen livelihood of the poor and underprivileged communities through promoting sustainable agriculture, climate smart crops, entrepreneurship and agripreneurship, thereby ensuring food security, food sovereignty, nutritional security and income security

To promote peace, Interfaith dialogue and bring Sustainable relief services to Internally Displaced persons and disadvantaged persons caused by natural disasters, wars and other pandemics

To increase awareness about health, sanitation and hygiene in general, STDs and HIV/AIDS in particular.

To promote value based education and rights among children, youths, adults at family and community levels for universal development

To address gender issues and empower women socially, economically and politically.

The Journey Since 2007

2019

SURUDEV launches its humanitarian department.

Launch of Sustainable Urban gardening Program.

Launch of SURUDEV’s Sustainable Clean Community Program.

SURUDEV gains special consultative status with the United Nation’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

2017-2018

Launch of the Njising-Tabenken Montane forest initiative.

Launch of Honey business with our locally supported farmers.

Launch of research on Primates and Birds in the Mount Mbam and the Njising—Tabenken forest.

IUCN –PPI Funded program with SEKAKOH to carry out community conservation of the Nigeria-Cameroon Chimpanzee in the Kom-Wum forest reserve.

2016-2017

Launch of our news time magazine dubbed “The Ecologist”.

Creation of our community Sustainable Mushroom Farms (COSMUF).

Creation of our Sustainable Bio-demonstration farms with 300 farmers already trained and supported.

Partnership with the Pollination Project to train widows in our Sustainable Bio-demonstration farms in Bongom.

First Partnership with the New England Biolabs foundation to improve agro-ecology in the South West and North West Regions.

Creation of the great apes program and our community driven conservation of the Kom-wum forestreserve with the ARCUS foundation, Global Green Grants and the World-wide Funds for Nature (WWF).

2014-2015

First Grants from the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium to conduct research and conserve endangered endemic birds across the Bamenda highlands.

First Grants from the Sacramento Zoo to conduct research and conserve endangered endemic birds across the Bamenda highlands.

Launch of “Your Environment” a sensitization programe in partnership with 10 community radios across the Bamenda highlands.

2010-2013

First awards from Rain birds’ intelligent use of water awards to restore four water catchments.

First partnership with the Regional delegation of Environment, Protection of nature and Sustainable development (MINPEDED) to plant trees in six schools in the Bamenda highlands.

2008
Creation of a 2000 capacity nursery in Nkambe.

2009

Creation of three nurseries in Nkambe, and Bamenda with the capacity of producing some 6000 trees.

Partnership with trees for the future to plant over 500000 trees across Donga Mantung Division through our agro-forestry programs.

2007
Creation of five school clubs in the Bamenda highlands.
